I was involved recently in a conversation of perception and survival. The conversation entailed something I see as an extra versus something needed to survive living out in the elements or on the streets.
I want everyone who is a part of The Stomp family to know we don’t do extra’s, we have limited funds and we only target specific needs that our homeless or near homeless friends need to make it through another day. We may have a difference of opinion on occasion as to what is a necessity or what helps these folks make it through bone chilling weather or what they need to stay dry and safe, but make no mistake in believing that anything we do has extreme value mostly for survival. Things such as tents, tarps, coats, socks, shoes, a warm meal, a gift card, bus passes and school supplies for elementary kids. Things that don’t meet the requirement are usually donated without prior knowledge. We try and stay away from soda products, prepackage sweets and foods.
I want everyone one who is a part of this organization to know that any money spent is judiciously thought out and planned. Our minimal funding requires extreme discipline and knowledge of what our friends really need, not what they want or an extra.
Thank you and I will see you at the next Stomp The Blues Festival May 17, 2014 @ Chesterfield Village.
